Book Review: Glam Nail Studio by Amber Elizabeth Stores

There’s luxe and then there’s luxe. When the book Glam Nail Studio: Tips to Create Salon Perfect Nails landed at pedicure.com we were completely floored. Not only is this beautiful book packed full of incredible photography, and everything you could possibly need to know about manicures and pedicures, but it’s a hard cover book. So chic. This isn’t one for the bookshelf, it belongs front and center on your coffee table. We could wax lyrical about how much information is jammed into the 224 pages, how delicious the 200 color photos are, and how this is literally the only book you could ever need, covering everything from the basics of doing nails, to intricate nail art. Instead, we’ll let author Amber Elizabeth Stores tell you in her words.

Why was now the right time for you to launch this book?

Nail art is all the rage these days. There are tons of beauty bloggers and pro manicurists sharing their knowledge, but I wanted to take it a step further. I realized that as much as the public loves the outcome of great nail looks, many don’t have a clue about nail care. The public wants to know why their nails are so thin, why their polish doesn’t last, why their cuticles are so dry and how not to spend hours in the salon just picking out a lacquer color. I wanted to put all those answers and more in one ‘fun to dig into’ guide (because textbooks are boring, lol).

The book is essentially a bible for anyone wanting to know anything about nail care. What do you wish you had known when you started in the industry?

That’s the thing. You have to come into this industry knowing that you don’t know ANYTHING or most of what you know is the result of bad habits being passed around.

I came in with an open mind and the desire to learn. Beauty is a forever growing and forever morphing industry. Here we are all forever students. But, speaking from my client side, I wish I would have known the state sanitation regulations. Way too many salons are breaking way too many rule and putting the public’s health at risk.

For beginners, what is the one tool you should have at home to create cool nail art without spending much money?

Scotch tape & tooth picks. With those to ingredients, the nail art recipes are endless.

What’s next for you now that the book has launched?

More books, a teaching tour, maybe a product line. The limit is the sky!

Finally, what are you wearing on your nails *right now*?

My hands are never the same… Today, my left hand is rocking Dior nail lacquer in Porcelaine and on my right, YSL Bleu Majorelle. Both over Calgel structure gel. I always have a coat of Calgel on my natural nails for strength.
