How To: Keep Your Manicure and Pedicure Looking Fresh All Summer

Summer. Sunshine. Beaches. Barbecues. You’re outdoors, you’re showing a little skin, and you’re rocking a bright and shiny manicure and pedicure because that’s what the season calls for. But with all that extra sunscreen you’re applying, the ocean, the sand…your polish can look lackluster very quickly.

Naja Rickette, celebrity manicurist and star of WE TV’s L.A. Hair, says the best thing to do is slick on a new top coat. “Top coat your mani and pedi every other day for long lasting color. ” Dana Caruso, Sally Hansen Global Manicurist, agrees, saying, “Every other day it is important to include a refreshed top coat application remembering always to seal the free edge with a quick extra swipe of top coat to add longevity.” Rickettes also adds, “The sand acts as a natural exfoliator, so the best bet to keep your toes bright and shiny with their color is to opt for a gel polish pedicure on the feet.”

It’s not just polish that can lose its shine in the summertime, but cuticles too. Rickette has the solution, saying “Oil, oil, and more oil. Summer days at the beach you are most likely concerned about your skin and using an SPF. Cuticles are no different so do not forget about them or skimp on moisturizing them. Oils from your pantry work well, like olive or coconut, and Burt’s Bees makes a great cuticle salve in a tin so you don’t have to worry about oil spilling inside your beach bag.”

A small top coat and a tin of cuticle balm won’t take up much room in your bag, but they’ll help keep you looking a million bucks this summer!.
