Is Shaking My Nail Polish Bad?

Is shaking my nail polish bad?

Short Answer: Yes

Long Answer: It might look cute when you shake your polish bottle like a polaroid picture, but when you do that, you’re pumping little air bubbles through the formula. Those little bubbles make your polish thick and gluggy, and are going to lead to an uneven polish job, and ultimately, chipping.

Instead of shaking your bottle to get the polish moving, you should roll the polish between your palms. Most brands of polish will have one or two little metal balls down the bottom to help keep the liquid moving. Even if your bottle doesn’t have little balls, rolling the bottle will gently will help combat any formula separation, without shaking that bad boy and turning it into a bottle of champagne (you know…from the bubbles. Sorry, that was terrible wordplay).
