The Five Nail Polish Colors Everyone Needs To Have At Home

Wedding season. Party season. Spring. Summer. All occasions to get yourself all prettied up. But if you don’t have time to get to the salon for a manicure and a pedicure, it’s important to have the essentials on hand at home. Obviously this includes all the basic tools, but it’s also important to have a solid nail polish library that can be called on in any occasion. How does one build the perfect nail polish library? Read on, friends.

Something Nude
Everyone needs a nude on standby. Picking the perfect nude can be tricky, because what works for one person might not work for the next – it all depends on skin tone. That said, OPI alone have approximately 25 nudes in their range, so you should be able to find the right one amongst the masses. Best way to find your shade is by matching it to your foundation, and always go for high shine.

Something Red
You can’t go wrong with a classic red. Appropriate for all occasions, matches all outfits, makes you look 104% more chic at all times. If your skin has yellow undertones then go for something tomato or coral hued; if your skin has cool or blue undertones then rock a berry red.

Something Pink
It is up to you whether you go for a lighter pink or a bolder fuschia, but every collection needs a pink. It’s a bit more flirty and relaxed than your classic red, and is guaranteed to get you through spring and safely into summer. Here at Pedicure our all time favorite, never fail, all-year-round staple is Dana from Zoya.

Something Fun
Something that makes you happy! Something that makes you want to stare at your nails while you are typing. Something that screams good mood! Fun! Hooray! Whether this is glitter, blue, green, fluorescent yellow…one day you’ll be in the drug store and you’ll see a polish that makes you smile. Buy it, because this is it.

Something Sexy
Sometimes a dame needs to turn up the vamp dial, right? This is for evening time, when you’re showing a little skin and most likely wearing a heel. Think deep blood red (different to the classic red mentioned above), chocolate brown, dark grey, or inky navy. Chanel do excellent sexy colors. Keep your nails short, or sexy can quickly turn into trashy!

The five colors pictured above are (L-R): OPI – Samoan Sand, Zoya – Kristi, Zoya – Dana, NYC New York Color – Short Shorts, Chanel – Black Pearl.
