5 Nail Trends We Hope Die and Never Return

People are paying attention to nails like never before. Nail art has become a statement, a great way of expressing one’s self in a fun, temporary way. That being said, some trends fare better than others. Below, these are top 5 trends we hope go the way of whatever search engine existed before Google.

5: Nude Reverse French Manicure

The reverse French manicure breathed new life into a dated trend, and if done right, say with a black and red color combo, the end effect drips with understated glamour. However, the “Nude” reverse French simply looks like your nails grew out and you were too lazy to fix them – or even worse, like you’ve been gnawing at your nails.

4: All Over Matte Nails

When it comes to a matte finish, a little goes a long way. It looks great when paired with a shiny finish for a contrasting look on your nails. However, a full-on matte manicure is dull, lifeless, and ages your hands, especially in dark tones. It gives your nails that “I just spent the last hour gardening or building sandcastles and forgot to wash my hands” look. Drop it already.

3: Caviar Texture

Textured nails have turned their moment into a mainstay, and for the most part, we’re loving it. Glitter, velvet, lace, and even candy-like finishes have found their way onto every nail addict’s digits. But the “Caviar” trend takes it too far: dozens of tiny microbeads are stuck onto the polish to mimic the look of fish eggs but quite frankly, the end result just looks like your nails caught the herp.

2: Nail Piercings

For one minute, please forget the fact that nail piercings are HIGHLY impractical and would most likely get stuck in your hair/earrings/sweater/something worse and end up ripping your nail off. Forget about all of that and just look at it: does anything about this look say “I don’t want no scrubs?” No, it doesn’t. Keep the piercings to your body; your nails look just fine with 3D bows glued on them.

1: Duck Nails

Bless the heart of the ill-informed nail tech who created the Duck Nail, an acrylic tip that is shaped to mimic the silhouette of a bird’s foot. They look less like the webbed foot of a duck and more like 10 individual Tostitos Scoops glued to your nails – making you look ready and waiting to hit any bowl of guacamole, any time. Sorry, but you’re not invited to any of our upcoming fiestas.
