In The VIP Chair: First Nails and Hair Larchmont, NY

It was the day of our baby shower for our little man, who we thought deserved to be celebrated for the precious miracle that he is. When we say baby shower it was really a huge party that included delicious wine tasting from our origin; Australia, New Zealand and New York, live music and decadent delights. You see we believe that every life should be celebrated and we don’t like traditional baby showers. Our baby shower for our daughter was a Great Gasby themed cocktail, cigar and exquisite dessert party. We like to take a tradition and add our own little spin on it. It is also a great excuse to see all of our friends (our family are 30-hours door-to-door flight away) before we begin a few months of hibernation with a new baby, battling sleep deprivation and getting into a new routine as a family of four.

I took a break from party preparations to have my fingers and toes painted one of my fav polish colors –  OPI’s Big Apple, a beautiful bright red that I had planned on matching to my lipstick.

I choose a local salon First Nails and Hair, that looked nice and clean as I walked in the door. The lady who greeted me (I was the only one in the salon at the time) was friendly and said she could do my mani and pedi straight away. Then a regular walked in and she said I would now have to wait 10-minutes. I love that they were looking after their regular customers but to wait 10-minutes while my husband and daughter were at the park waiting for me on top of all of the things I still needed to do for our baby shower was not ideal. I don’t know if it was pregnancy hormones or the fact that I had 2-hours sleep that made me want to walk right out the door in annoyance. As I sat down and stopped being so dramatic (you know what they say don’t sweat the small stuff) I realized it wasn’t a big deal. 10-minutes later an apologetic nail technician ran through the door and immediately began to fill the pedicure tub to start work on my swollen pregnant feet.

She was really sweet, asking about the baby and did an excellent job on my toes, she then transferred me to someone else to do my hands who was quiet and just got on with getting the job done. Both technicians were rather meticulous and my polish on my fingers lasted 9-days which is amazing! The nail salon was a decent size and had a hair salon at the back which although small was rather busy for this early in the morning. Overall, the service was good and salon clean. If you want your polish job to last longer than norm then this is the salon for you.

Until next time,

Ruth Shelling
