When you hear the term manicure you most likely think of color. Am I right? Thing is, color is just one part of the overall mani – nail shape is hugely important. The shape of your nails can either make your fingers look long and elegant, sharp and chic, or short and stubby.
Many experts suggest that the ideal shape for your fingers mirrors the shape of the white line at the bottom of your nail bed. This is called the Lunula. If your lunula is quite curved, then you probably look best with an oval or round shaped; if it appears quite flat, you probably look better with a square or squoval nail. It’s also important to remember that not every finger shape is the same, so when you are filing your nails, look at each finger individually, rather than trying to go for a ‘one shape fits all’ model.
Handy hint: If you don’t have visible lunula’s , try pushing your cuticles back on your thumbs – that’s often the nail with the most visible whites.
One nail shape that you (probably) won’t ever get from a lunula is the stiletto! This trendy shape is currently enjoying its moment in the sun courtesy of celebs like Rihanna, who like to be adventurous and rock some serious nail art. Practical for typing on a keyboard all day? Probably not.
