NYFW: DKNY and Essie

Matte was a huge trend, again, on the nails at New York Fashion Week. We saw nude matte, baby pink matte, dark inky matte…it’s all very chic and we love it. But what we loved the most was the nails at DKNY. Michelle Saunders created three looks using Essie, and our favorite was the one seen above: an inverted French manicure.

Saunders created the look by starting with a base of Essie’s First Base, then one coat of Blanc (white). Next was a coat of Smokin’ Hot, a deep gray with purple undertones, leaving a thin white arc around the white base of the nail. Saunders then added a thin coat of Allure, a sheer pinkish white, to achieve the cement color that speaks to the dark and dirty streets of New York, and a coat of Matte About You to finish. Phew! Lots of layers? Yes. Worth it? YES!
